Two Birds, One Web 2.0 Stone

Who else is balancing school and additional priorities? Those priorities could include taking care of family, supporting significant others, or full-time and/or part-time job on top of graduate-level coursework. I assume everyone has at least one additional priority that requires time, attention and effort, right?!

Between balancing the transition to a new job, moving to a new apartment, my summer travel schedule, and including time for daily self-care my attention span and number of productive hours are limited! #MichellerunsonDunkin

That is why I always try to align my graduate school assignments with either my full-time job focus or an area I need to grow in so I gain dual benefits.

Killing two birds with one stone has been a lifesaver with compartmentalizing my priorities!

How do you kill two birds with one stone in relation to school, work, and your personal life?

For our Community Observation assignment (I chose the full version) I wanted to participate and lurk communities that could provide a dual benefit; communities that meet the guidelines of Dr. Dennen's assignment and communities that would provide in-depth orientation to my Fall 2018 internship focus.

My Fall 2018 internship will focus on implementing the LMS Canvas into Career Center student-facing programs including the Mock Interview Program (the program I directly design and coordinate), the Career Ambassador Program, the Career Center's Graduate Assistants, and a new program professional development certificate program launching in Fall 2018. I think there is a lot of potential this powerful LMS provides if designed and used correctly!

Thus, an insider perspective and understanding of Canvas will be required so I can successfully design courses, train staff on how to interact with the LMS and course(s), and ensure student experience is positively impacted by using an LMS.

The two communities I will be focusing on for the purposes of the Community Observation assignment are the Canvas Higher Education Community and the Canvas Instructional Designers Community.

I feel the Community Observation assignment parameters are so specific that by focusing on Canvas-related groups I will identify Canvas best-practices I can use during my Fall 2018 internship, and find Canvas wizards to add to my personal network who can provide troubleshooting support.

Have you thought about your communities yet?

If so, share them in the comments below!

Have a wonderful FriYAY and a great weekend!

XO,

Michelle
